Personal Financial Planning and Procrastination - Don’t Wait to Plan for Your Future

I have been in the financial services industry since 1967 and have often heard the statement, “I wish I had started my personal financial planning earlier.”  Unfortunately, I don’t have any silver-bullet answers for individuals that make this statement.  Situations vary with each individual based on how they were raised, what influenced their financial beliefs,  or why they procrastinated.   Sadly, many Americans fall into this habit. In a recent survey conducted to better understand financial procrastination, it was found that more than two-thirds (68%) of adults age 55 or older admit to procrastinating on retirement planning.   One thing I’m certain of is that time wasted or lost is not re-capturable.

PROCRASTINATION COSTS

There are several other certainties that will cost you by procrastinating which are; taxation, inflation and stock market losses and gains.  The closer you are to retirement the more you need to know about all of the various scenarios in planning for retirement.  The younger you are requires you to know how to accumulate enough funds to live on in your retirement.

MY BEST ADVICE: GET STARTED ON YOUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING TODAY!

The best advice I can offer is to meet with a Financial Professional that has or is active in retirement planning for the various scenarios and accumulating strategies.  The Financial Professional should be seasoned and have individuals that can vouch for their abilities to provide sound retirement planning.  Being a Certified Financial Planner does not instantly mean this individual is good at what they do.

The bottom line is: don’t procrastinate, seek out a financial advisor that you can get to know, like, and trust and do it today!
